Where is mickey gilley now
Raised in Ferriday, Louisiana along with his two famous cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jimmy Swaggart it was there where his love and appreciation of music grew. He absorbed the haunting sounds of Louisiana rhythm and blues by sneaking up to the windows of the clubs at night. Mickey learned to play piano at an early age but did not achieve the success of his cousin Jerry Lee until later.
The song would later by used in a commercial for Yoplait yogurt. He continued playing in cities throughout the south but eventually settled into Pasadena where he began performing at the Nesadel Club. By the mid-seventies his songs were hitting the country charts with regularity. A television show was developed which only added to the phenomenon. All three boys, Gilley, Lewis, and Swaggart, were musically inclined and would sneak off to blues joints at night to learn more about music.
During his teen years, Gilley became very good at playing the piano. He managed to get some session work in recording studios near Houston playing the piano and began playing in local clubs. Eventually he became popular enough to play around the United States working through small labels before being signed a contract with Dot Records.
He continues to produce albums. In all, he has fifteen albums. But most anniversary gigs got dropped. Typically Gilley does about to shows a year, testament to a career that was slow to find traction. Born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana where he got his musical education in church, Gilley ended up in Texas for work, but work unrelated to music.
He was married at 17, and his father-in-law did sewer and storm drain work in Houston, which offered the Gilley modest but steady income. His career to date includes 17 No. So I miss that. But I enjoy that part of it, being with the people. And that came to a screeching halt.
